A Foundation for Growth, A Future for Bowls

A fund for bowlers, by bowlers

To secure the future of our sport in the region, Bowls Auckland has introduced an exciting new initiative — the Bowls Auckland Development Foundation (BAF).

Announced at the 2025 AGM, the Foundation is an independent charitable trust established to provide a sustainable funding stream that supports the long-term growth of bowls across Auckland.

With traditional funding sources becoming increasingly limited, the BAF will build and invest a capital fund designed to grow over time, supporting clubs, schools, and the wider bowls community for generations to come.

“This is an exciting initiative,” says BAF Trustee and Bowls Auckland Patron Kevin Hickland. “It will support the lifeblood of our great game well into the future.”

The Foundation will invest in projects that:

  • Upgrade and improve bowling facilities

  • Develop people: players, coaches, umpires, volunteers, and greenkeepers

  • Break down barriers to participation, especially for rangatahi, all abilities, and older adults

  • Promote wellbeing through bowls and community connection

From enhancing club greens to supporting school programmes and leadership development, the BAF is about future-proofing the game.

Auckland’s bowls community is proud, passionate, and diverse — and the Foundation offers a meaningful way to continue this legacy. The BAF will rely on the support and generosity of those who love bowls and value its role in our communities. Whether you’re a player, member, or supporter, you can make a difference.
