The Bowls Auckland Development Foundation Trust (BAF) is an independent charitable trust (registration number CC631830) established by Bowls Auckland in 2025.
The Foundation’s purpose is to create, grow, and invest a capital fund in perpetuity to support the advancement and development of lawn bowls in the Auckland region — primarily through support for clubs, schools, associations, and Bowls Auckland itself.
As with many sports and community groups, traditional funding sources — such as gaming grants — are becoming increasingly difficult to access. The BAF has been created to offer an alternative funding stream for those passionate about growing and sustaining bowls in Auckland.
The BAF exists to grow and future-proof the sport of bowls in Auckland. Through its capital fund, the Foundation supports projects that improve facilities, develop people, reduce participation barriers and promote wellbeing through bowls.
Beneficiaries include clubs, schools, associations and initiatives aligned with the advancement of the game.
The BAF relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations with a passion for bowls and community development. All donations are tax-deductible.
The BAF has clear criteria and processes to ensure its funding supports initiatives that deliver the greatest benefit to the game of bowls in Auckland — prioritising clubs, schools, associations, and Bowls Auckland.
The Foundation will open for applications annually in September. Applications will be reviewed by the Trustees in February, with funding provided to successful applicants for the following year.
The first grant round will begin in September 2026.
