Picture a balmy Auckland summer evening featuring laughter, music, sun, cold drinks, and the aroma of the food truck drifting across the greens at Mt Eden Bowls. That was the scene for Super Bowl III.
Created in collaboration with NZME, the event once again brought together four teams of celebrity guests to battle it out over four rounds for the coveted Super Bowl trophy. Each team was made up of two celebrities paired with a bowler, representing Newstalk ZB (along with Davey Motu), the Mad Monday Podcast (with Hannah Dawson), the Agenda Podcast (starring Jhanna Savov), and Movember (paired with Aiden Takarua).
The concept is part of a wider effort to continue evolving the perception of bowls showcasing the game as fast, colourful and modern, while introducing it to new audiences and bringing more people through the gates of clubs (either digitally or physically) across the region.
On the green, our celebrity guests delivered surprisingly high-quality play, keeping the crowd thoroughly entertained. The thrilling final pitched Hannah’s Mad Monday team against Jhanna’s Agenda Podcast crew.
With last year’s champions, Matt Heath’s Newstalk ZB team, unable to defend their title, a new winner was guaranteed. In the end it was Jhanna Savov and the Agenda team who got the chocolates, earning the trophy and the bragging rights for the next 12 months.
A big thank you to Mt Eden Bowls, NZME, the Alternative Commentary Collective, and everyone who came along to support the evening.
We’re already looking forward to Super Bowl IV
