Pt Chev Fockers win Rapid Roll Pairs
23 October 2025

The Rapid Roll Pairs came to a thrilling conclusion, with the Point Chev Fockers claiming the overall title after a dominant run — finishing on 16 points and a +226 shot difference, with just one slip across nine rounds of play.

After two rain-affected weeks, the finals made its way to Epsom Bowling Club, where players faced a lively breeze and overcast skies that added an extra layer of challenge and plenty of intrigue to each match compared to previous weeks undercover.

A huge thank you goes to Les Smith, who convened the competition, and to our generous host clubs, Royal Oak, Remuera, and Epsom, for their flexibility and support, particularly with last-minute changes. A special nod also to Jean-Claude Fuller, who managed Section 1 superbly throughout the event.

Movers and Shakers

Behind the Fockers, the Howick Hustlers made a strong late charge to secure second place, edging out the Howick HELP trio who finished third.

In an extraordinary display of club depth and consistency, Howick teams claimed five of the top six spots, a testament to both their skill and the enthusiasm the club has brought to this event. Their enthusiasm and turnout have been a real highlight of this year’s Rapid Roll Pairs.

Howick Hawks, Spitfires, and Hero’s all performed strongly, while Pringle Park Platinum and Epsom Eagles rounded out the leaderboard. At the other end, MWBC, Balmoral Bears, and Kohi Krew showed great spirit and sportsmanship, embracing the unique challenge of the format.

A Growing Favourite

The Rapid Roll Pairs has earned its spot as an enjoyable and innovative format on our calendar. The energy and spirit shown by players each week has created a welcoming, upbeat atmosphere that perfectly captured the intent of the event — fast, fun & friendly competition.

“It’s been great to see so many clubs embracing the fun, competitive spirit of the format,” said tournament convenor Les Smith. “There’s a real buzz around this event now, and we’re already looking forward to seeing it grow even further next year.”

With strong support, great energy, and players fully embracing the spirit of the game, this year’s Rapid Roll Pairs has set a new benchmark for Bowls Auckland “Twilight” offerings, including under the new Rapid Roll branding. Excitement for the next Rapid Roll Pennant event in February is already building as clubs are building their 8-player squads.
