Auckland Bowling Club continues its golden run this season, claiming another two Centre titles hot on the heels of their recent triples triumph.
In the women’s singles, Lisa Prideaux once again demonstrated her trademark consistency and calmness under pressure, guiding her way through a competitive field to claim the title. The victory adds to her growing reputation as one of Auckland’s elite bowlers.
But perhaps the biggest surprise came from Alfreda Williams (New Lynn), competing in her very first Champ of Champs event. After receiving a first-round default, she had a stunning run to the final with standout performances in both the quarter and semi-finals. Despite falling short against Prideaux, Williams captured the hearts of many with her inspiring debut.
Reflecting on her experience, she shared: “I thoroughly enjoyed my first Champ of Champs event and playing against wonderful, seasoned women—especially Lisa. What an experience!”
In the men’s event, the crowd was treated to a showstopping final, as Darral “Dangerous Goods” Gordon delivered a commanding 21-12 victory over defending champion Mike Galloway. In a match that showcased the best of singles bowls, it was Gordon who seized the key moments—most notably when he drew shot with Galloway lying four. That pivotal bowl turned the tide and sealed Gordon’s third Centre title.
Bowls Auckland Vice President Tere Brunton was the marker for the final, he commented: “What a terrific final. Mike played like the champion he is, but Darral was dangerously good!”
