The people helping shape our playing programme are confirmed for the 2026-27 season.
The Playing Programme Committee (PPC) plays an important role in the Bowls Auckland playing programme, ensuring the voice of bowlers is represented when key elements of the season are developed, including the Playing Calendar and Conditions of Play.
Put simply, it’s a group of bowlers making decisions on the bowls tournaments we play.
Meet the 2026-27 PPC
We’re grateful to all our Committee Members for giving their time, experience and knowledge to help shape another season of competition.
The Committee for 2026-27 is:
- Bryan Chapman – Howick
- Lesley McLinden – Royal Oak
- Katy Merrett – Balmoral
- Les Smith – Ōtāhuhu Railway
- Brendon Walton – Bowls Auckland
There is one change from 2025-26, with Katy Merrett joining the Committee, replacing Fiona Matheson following Fiona’s two years of service. We thank Fiona for her valuable contribution and welcome Katy to the group.
What does the PPC aim to achieve?
The Committee’s focus is on developing a playing programme that is purposeful, balanced and relevant to today’s bowlers, while also considering the future of the game.
Its objectives are to:
- Ensure every event has a clear purpose, target market and strategic alignment.
- Help alleviate congestion across club calendars where possible.
- Align with Bowls New Zealand requirements and initiatives where applicable.
- Consider emerging trends and opportunities to evolve events and their delivery for current and future players.
- Prioritise both the on-green and off-green experience.
PPC’s responsibilities
The PPC is effectively the ‘set-up crew’ behind the playing programme – responsible for establishing key documents, including the Playing Calendar and respective Conditions of Play.
Once these are confirmed, events are handed over to the respective Tournament Convenor, who takes responsibility for delivering the event with the support of umpires and host clubs.
It’s a team effort, with each part of the process playing an important role in delivering a quality experience for bowlers.
