Jack’s vs Kitty’s Challenge

A New Rivalry on the Green

On Wednesday, 3 December, we debut the Jack’s vs Kitty’s Challenge – a fresh addition to our rep calendar and the final hit-out before the Battle of the Bridge. With pride, gender rivalry, and bragging rights all on the table, this mid-week showdown is set to deliver plenty of spark both on and off the green.

Each grade has been split into four singles and two pairs, with 18 rink points on offer. While performance remains the priority, the evening doubles as a celebration of whanaungatanga (connection and relationships), a chance for our wider squad to connect ahead of a massive weekend and to acknowledge the mahi (work) that has gone into preparing for one of the biggest fixtures of the year.

The Kittys – rising talent and returning strength

The Kittys bring exciting shifts across all teams. Hannah Dawson makes her Premier debut, joining Mackenzie Blucher, who returns to representative play after time away.

The Development side features a full roster of recent 1–5 graduates, including the mother-daughter pairing of Nicole and Lee Singer, while the 1–5s introduce several emerging players to rep bowls. Standouts include Howick’s rising student Lilly Wechse and Pt Chevalier’s Tracey Brayshaw, whose indoor experience adds a new dimension to the lineup.

The Jacks – settled combinations with room for opportunity

The Jacks remain largely consistent with their earlier Quad squad, though the temporary absence of Liam Hill and David Motu, competing in Australia at the UBC, creates an opening for selectors to trial new talent.

The Development Men have been sharpening their combinations under Sean Hird, while the
1–5s face intense competition for limited spots, narrowing 12 Quad representatives down to just eight.

Be there for the action

After the 90-minute round, players will gather for a light function before turning full attention to the weekend. Spectators are warmly invited to Mt Eden Bowling Club, with play running from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Come along, support the squads, and enjoy a great night of Auckland bowls.
