The Bowls Auckland Annual Awards Luncheon was a day to remember, honouring the remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication across our bowls community. It was our opportunity to spotlight the passion and excellence that define our sport. From standout players to tireless volunteers and inspiring clubs and initiatives, the event celebrated all those who help bowls thrive across the region.
Last Sunday, more than 210 guests packed Royal Oak Bowls for a sell-out celebration. Among the crowd were players, club representatives, team members from Bowls Auckland and Bowls New Zealand, as well as valued partners, including Taylor Bowls and Shade Systems.
MC Courtney Tairi, former Silver Fern and well-known sports commentator, led the high-energy afternoon. Following a delicious lunch, the pace picked up as seasonal awards were presented, culminating in the prestigious Gold Star and Special Award presentations.
Five players were awarded their 5 Gold Star medallions. Among the elite few, Aggie Motu and Lisa Prideaux were honoured with 10 Gold Stars, marking a major milestone in their careers. Lisa capped off an extraordinary season by winning five Centre titles, bringing her total to 13 — a phenomenal achievement.
Another standout moment came from Liam Hill, who continues his meteoric rise. After claiming Young Bowler of the Year last season, his talent shone once again as he secured this year’s Men’s Bowler of the Year — an exceptional back-to-back accomplishment for someone so young.
Allan Smith of Blockhouse Bay was recognised with a Service Award, honouring over 20 years of club service and 18 years’ contribution to Bowls Auckland in a range of leadership roles.
