Community engagement for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei rangatahi

The launch of Bowls Auckland’s dynamic holiday programme at Auckland Bowling Club earlier this week marks a milestone in engaging the youth of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. Funded by Sport Auckland, with vibrant community engagement, this four-session initiative aims to kindle a passion for bowls among rangatahi, emphasising teamwork, sportsmanship, and a healthy, active lifestyle.

In an exciting kickoff, 30 enthusiastic participants dove into a mix of entertaining activities designed to showcase the fun and enjoyment inherent in the sport of bowls. Guided through the basics with hands-on experiences, the programme fosters inclusivity, creating a supportive environment for skill development at each participant’s pace.

As the final week approaches, anticipation builds!

To wrap up the programme on a high note, Bowls Auckland is hosting a Whānau Day competition. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers are invited to join their developing talents in an official game, not only strengthening family bonds but also reinforcing the community spirit that Bowls Auckland is dedicated to nurturing.

Our heartfelt thanks extend to Sport Auckland and Auckland Bowling Club for their generous support, enabling this community-oriented initiative. We are excited to introduce Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei youth to the joys of lawn bowls and to also establish lasting connections and memories for families celebrating the programme’s finale.

The success of this initiative stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration in shaping a vibrant and inclusive future for our youth.
