Canoe & Campi: The Next Wave of Talent
6 August 2025

This weekend, Auckland’s emerging 1-5 bowlers take centre stage in the Campi Cup (Women) and Canoe Trophy (Men) – the thrilling culmination of the 1–5 Year Winter Coaching Programme.

Campi Cup

Held at Epsom Bowling Club, the Campi Cup promises a fierce display of finesse and fire. With seven rounds across two days, every game counts as teams vie for match points and shot differential to break into the top eight.

Players to Watch
Reigning champions Donna Davison, Jane Seager, and new teammate Donna Hansen return, with serious firepower for East.

Julie Keven links up with 1–5 Singles champ Penny Yam and rising Remuera talent Krystyna Calogaras in a balanced and dangerous trio – another East team.

Southeast: Youth leads the charge with Hannah Dawson (18), Lilly Wesche (13), and Lea Hooper (18+), forming the youngest lineup in the field 😊

Also strong contenders: Dana Taylor, Claire Orr, and Julie McGill (Southeast); Clare Denny, Filatiala Cooper & Lynette Dixon (Central); Deanne Bronlund, Heather Speedy & Louise Stewart (North Harbour); and more.

Canoe Trophy

Bridge Park hosts some of the region’s best 1-5 male bowlers in a test of composure, pressure, and potential. With a history of champions etched into the trophy, the Canoe is a proving ground for future greats.

On the radar:
Defending skip Steve Campbell teams with Graham Lewis, Phillip Garratt, and promising newcomer Warwick McCarthy: Southeast

Another Southeast quartet, David Weir’s team (Simon Gao, Chris Hand, Wade Brealey), all current 1-5 Reps – look strong.

Playing for East is Craig Moffat, who leads a steady side (Dean Keven, Paul Davison, Colin Dunning), while Sam Brack’s high-energy unit (Chas Gray, Simon Pomeroy & Gavin Pearce) promises excitement.

Also confirmed: Counties, Southwest, and additional Southeast teams all bring serious skill.

Expect a weekend packed with rising stars, competitive spirit, and the continued growth of bowls in Auckland. Whether it’s a breakthrough moment or a title defence, the next generation is ready.

Good luck, everyone. You can follow up the draws & results here:
