The Laws of the Sport of Bowls – Crystal Mark Fourth Edition represents the latest global update to the game’s official rulebook, developed by the World Bowls Laws Committee (LC) in collaboration with Member National Authorities (MNAs).
A key recent decision by the World Bowls Laws Advisory Group has seen the rescission of Laws 37.1.3 and 37.1.5.3, which were originally introduced in August 2022. These laws were designed to penalise players who deliberately displaced or lifted their own team’s bowls. However, following widespread confusion and unintended game forfeitures, the Advisory Group recommended their immediate removal.
The intent remains to maintain fairness and integrity in play, while ensuring the Laws are clear, consistent, and practical for all levels of the sport. The numbering of Law 37.1.4 will remain unchanged until the next full review cycle.
