Our Community, Our Game

It has once again been a privilege to represent the bowlers of Auckland throughout the 2025–2026 season and witness firsthand the passion, commitment and community spirit that make our sport so special.

One of the highlights of this role is visiting clubs across the region. It is heartening to see clubs continuing to grow and adapt, embracing new opportunities while honouring the traditions and people who have shaped their history.

Our clubs are the heartbeat of the game. They are more than places to play bowls; they are social anchors and community hubs that offer people a place to connect and belong. From nine-year-olds trying bowls for the first time to lifelong members still enjoying the game in their nineties, clubs provide opportunities for people of all ages to participate and thrive.

At the core of this success are our volunteers and club leaders. Their commitment, passion and countless hours of service create the experiences that keep members engaged and communities connected. They are the people who truly keep the game rolling.

Celebrating Progress

This season delivered many highlights that demonstrate the strength and momentum of bowls across Auckland.

Among the standout moments for me were the continued success of our flagship events, including the JBWere Auckland Open and the St George National Under 26 Pairs. These tournaments continue to attract strong participation while showcasing both the quality of today’s players and the future potential of our sport.

It was exciting to see major facility developments completed at Bowls Papatoetoe and Howick Bowling Club, creating more opportunities for people to enjoy bowls throughout the year.

It has also been particularly pleasing to see continued growth in youth and rangatahi participation. The enthusiasm and camaraderie displayed by students through secondary school competitions highlight a bright future.

Looking Forward Together

As we reflect on the past year, there is much to be proud of. The progress made across our clubs and wider bowls community is the result of the collective efforts of members, volunteers, club committees, the Bowls Auckland team and Board.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to another successful season. Together, we are ensuring our clubs remain welcoming places to connect, participate and belong, while continuing to build a vibrant future for bowls across Auckland.

As President, I am proud to celebrate all those who continue to keep the game rolling.
