Auckland’s Jason Wong is heading to Scotland after qualifying to represent New Zealand at the World Bowls Tour Under 25 Singles Championships.
The talented Royal Oak and Howick bowler secured his place following an impressive PBA New Zealand Series, finishing as the country’s highest-ranked Under 25 player. The championship gets underway on Friday 30 October 2026 at the West Lothian Indoor Bowling Club in Scotland, where Jason will test himself against some of the world’s best young bowlers.
Jason heads into the tournament in strong form, having recently competed at the National Under 26 Five-a-Side Championships in Wellington, before representing Auckland’s Men’s Premier Development team at last weekend’s Spring Quad.
His qualification is a fantastic achievement and another exciting step in his development on the international stage.
Helping make the trip possible has been the generous support of the Auckland bowls community. The Bowls Auckland St George Fund awarded Jason a grant towards his travel costs, complemented by a fundraising campaign supported by numerous individual donors from across the Auckland bowling community.
Jason, who has been playing bowls for around six years, expressed his excitement and appreciation. “Having the opportunity to compete at an international event like this means a lot to me, and I am really looking forward to challenging myself against other young bowlers from around the world.”
He also acknowledged those supporting his journey. “Thank you again to the St George Fund and Bowls Auckland for supporting me and young bowlers in Auckland. I really appreciate your support.”
It’s a wonderful example of our bowls community coming together to support emerging talent and create opportunities on the world stage.
We congratulate Jason on his achievement and wish him every success in Scotland. We’ll certainly be cheering him on from afar!
