From a night of connection and inspiration to a weekend of winning bowls, Auckland’s representative season is off to a terrific start!
Coming together as one
The weekend began on Thursday night with Bowls Auckland’s Rep Season Launch, bringing together all six rep teams to celebrate the players, connect as one group and set the tone for the season ahead.
A highlight was a Q&A with Blackjacks Tony Grantham and Kerrin Wheeler, who shared their journeys towards the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Their insights provided plenty of inspiration before the teams headed into competition.

Six teams, one outstanding result
The 2026 Rep Spring Quad brought Auckland, Northland, North Harbour and Bay of Plenty together for two days of representative bowls. Auckland finished top in all six divisions, recording 42 wins from 60 contests; a 70% overall win rate.
Men’s Development led the way with 78%, followed by Men’s 1–5 Years on 75%, while the other four teams each finished on 67%. The Women’s Development team secured top spot by just two shots on differential, while the 1–5 Year women and men finished with impressive differentials of +81 and +79, respectively.
Women’s Premier and Development Head Selector and Coach Trish Croot was pleased with the opening outing, particularly with new players joining the squad.
“We are very pleased with our first outing of the season. With a number of new players in our squad, it is great to see the early form of the ladies as a group.”
More than results
Building connections and team culture was another highlight. Women’s 1–5 captain Katy Merrett reflected on the preparation and camaraderie that helped bring the team together.
“Bringing players together from different clubs, getting to know each other, having a few laughs and genuinely supporting one another made all the difference.”
Men’s 1–5 Co-coach Shaun Goldsbury was equally pleased with the attitude shown, highlighting how players supported one another, stayed composed under pressure and showed a genuine willingness to learn.
With valuable lessons and plenty of positives to take forward, Auckland’s squads now turn their attention to the challenges ahead, including the Battle of the Bridge and Intercentre.
A huge thank you to visiting centres Northland, North Harbour and Bay of Plenty, host clubs Howick, New Lynn, Papatoetoe and Royal Oak, their members, officials, markers and supporters.
And, of course, a big congrats to all six Auckland teams. A fantastic team effort and a great start to the season!
