The sun was shining at Bucklands Beach this Wednesday afternoon as local families rolled into the club to have a go at bowls!

With support from Sport Auckland, this was the first time we’ve held a Family Roll Up Day during the school holidays, and parents were thrilled to bring the kids along for an afternoon of fun, games and plenty of laughs.

The team at Bucklands Beach were out in full force – uniforms on, smiles aplenty and ready to help these future bowlers with tips, tricks and plenty of encouragement along the way.

As always, the queue for face painting was never-ending, but as soon as the kids were done, they were straight back onto the green to keep bowling! It was awesome to see kids trying out all the games on offer, while parents and grandparents chatted with club members about joining up and giving bowls a go themselves.

Seeing multiple generations enjoying a sport together is one of the things that makes bowls so special, and this Family Roll Up showcased that beautifully.

Whānau left the afternoon with membership forms in hand, asking when the next one would be – so we very quickly decided there’ll be another one during the summer holidays. Watch this space!
