Applications are now open for the 2026-2027 Playing Programme Committee (PPC).
The Committee plays an important role within both Bowls Auckland and the wider bowling community, ensuring key stakeholders, players and umpires have a voice and are empowered to contribute to decisions relating to centre tournaments.
Put simply, it’s a group of bowlers helping shape the future of bowling competitions in Auckland.
The Committee is made up of five representatives from across the bowling community:
- Open Men’s
- Open Women’s
- 1–5 Year
- Umpires
- Bowls Auckland Staff
The Committee’s primary objective is to develop a Playing Programme (Calendar of Events) and Conditions of Play that align with Bowls New Zealand regulations, complement club activity, and ensure every event has a clear purpose. It also considers current trends and the many factors that influence the game, both on and off the green. An easy job, right?
Following consultation with players and clubs, the Committee’s key responsibilities are to finalise the annual Playing Programme and the corresponding Conditions of Play. In short, the Committee sets the framework, while Bowls Auckland staff and officials are responsible for delivering the events.
Areas that sit outside the Committee’s remit include:
- Financial decisions, such as entry fees and prize money
- Event delivery, including the appointment of umpires and convenors
- Enforcement of the Conditions of Play, including disciplinary matters
We would like to thank the current Committee members; Lesley McLinden (Open Women’s), Bryan Chapman (Open Men’s), Fiona Matheson (1–5 Year), Les Smith (Umpires), and Brendon Walton (Bowls Auckland Staff) for their valuable contribution over the past 12 months.
If you are passionate about the future of the sport and want to help shape the competition landscape in Auckland, we encourage you to apply.
To apply, please complete the application form and provide any supporting documentation. Applications should be submitted to [email protected]
