The Junior Secondary Schools Pairs Day on 18 November brought another strong turnout to Remuera Bowling Club, with Year 9 and 10 students representing eight Auckland schools. Twenty-six teams filled the greens, creating a lively mix of competition, learning, and school spirit.
A forecast of steady rain didn’t deter anyone, and the weather played its part, holding off until the final bowl was played! The pairs format, built around short five-end games, kept teams moving and ensured every student had multiple chances to build confidence, read the head, and refine their draw.
This event holds a firm place on the school’s calendar. With seniors finished for the year, Junior Pairs offers younger players a dedicated space to compete, reconnect with friends from other schools, and experience bowls in a supportive environment. Many participants returned after enjoying last year’s event, adding to the sense of familiarity and friendly rivalry.
At the end of the day, two combinations topped their sections: Auckland Girls’ Grammar School’s Lilly and Briyana, and St Paul’s College’s Christian and Liam. Their teamwork and calm decision-making stood out across their rounds.
Every team contributed to an enjoyable and positive day on the greens. We look forward to welcoming returning and new students again in 2026.
