Auckland’s selectors have been hard at work narrowing down nearly 150 expressions of interest from players and are pleased to announce the representative training squads for the upcoming season.
This year’s squads feature a blend of experienced performers and rising talent, with all players selected illustrating their commitment to represent Bowls Auckland and its performance programme.
One notable change for the new season is the refinement of the criteria for the Development squad – it’s now restricted to players with 1–10 years of playing experience, ensuring the squad’s purpose of fostering emerging talent remains front and centre. Eligible players are clearly identified in the squad lists.
Bowls Auckland Performance Lead, Paul MacKinnon, expressed his enthusiasm for the season ahead:
“It’s been great to get stuck in and support the coaches and selectors through the process, including welcoming new leaders to the programme; Trish, Ian and Sean. Our next step is to ensure we establish and deliver the wrap-around support to allow the players to develop and perform at their best, consistently.”
The squads will engage in our performance programme throughout the season, with opportunities for players outside the initial selection to join as they put forward their case or as team needs evolve.
The 2025 representative calendar is set to thrill, kicking off with the Quad Series on 4–5 October against Bay of Plenty, Northland, and North Harbour, with team announcements coming the week of 22 September.
Other key rep fixtures include:
- Battle of the Bridge – 7 December
- Octagonals – February and March
- Intercentre – 12–15 March
Congratulations to all players and their clubs on this well-deserved achievement. Bowls Auckland extends thanks to everyone who expressed interest and looks forward to an action-packed season ahead.
