On Wednesday evening, 20 coaches and club selectors gathered for Bowls Auckland’s latest Coach Development session, diving into one of the toughest challenges in sport: picking the right team.
The evening kicked off with a hands-on challenge where participants had to create their best possible lineup from a pool of players. It didn’t take long for the room to buzz with debate—balancing form, potential, player combinations, and long-term development proved far from simple.
An interactive presentation then unpacked a range of proven team selection methods, linking every approach back to the Bowls Auckland Performance Framework. This helped coaches see how structured, consistent decision-making supports both immediate success and long-term growth.
A standout theme was Bowls Auckland’s “Find a Way” principle—encouraging coaches to stay adaptable, solution-focused, and committed to decisions that build Belonging, Trust, and Accountability in their teams.
The strong turnout and lively discussion showed just how dedicated our coaching community is to learning and growing together. Coaches left equipped with fresh ideas and practical strategies to bring back to their clubs and representative squads.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for this session. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of these principles in action across our region and welcome all coaches to attend our monthly sessions, held on the first Wednesday evening of each month from 6:00 pm.
