Bowls Auckland is pleased to announce its 1-5 Year representative squad for the upcoming Winter Quad, to be held on Saturday, 5 July at Cambridge Bowling Club.
This exciting fixture marks the debut of a refreshed format, replacing the traditional Battle of the Manukau. The new structure brings together Auckland, Counties Manukau, Thames Valley and Waikato in a strategic and competitive development opportunity for emerging talent.
Selection process: a focus on the future
The selection panel has taken a development-first approach, targeting players:
- who are part of the wider Auckland rep squad but haven’t yet featured this season, and
- who have been identified as prospects for the representative programme.
To ensure opportunity for growth, current J5 squad members and previous rep players this season were largely excluded, unless required to balance numbers.
1-5 Head Selector Robyn Reihana shares: “We are confident we’ve selected a strong mix of new and developing players. This event is a platform to build on our season’s momentum and provide a meaningful experience to those knocking on the rep door. It’s a bold and exciting selection, and we can’t wait to see it come to life.”
Train with the squad
Three Thursday night training sessions will be held in the lead-up:
📍 Royal Oak Bowling Club – 12 & 19 June
📍 Remuera Bowling Club – 26 June
Aspiring 1-5s in the region are welcome to join these sessions to experience the representative environment and test themselves against the squad. Interested? Email [email protected] to express interest.
