Bowls Auckland is excited to name its squad to contest the 1–5 Octagonal in Tauranga on 14–15 March, with eight players selected to represent Tāmaki Makaurau in the second edition of the Octagonal events.
The Octagonal has quickly established itself as the development fixture in the upper North Island, offering reps a competitive environment that mirrors the demands of Premier and Intercentre formats. It is a proving ground for emerging talent, and this year’s Auckland group brings both depth and adaptability.
Head Selector Robyn Reihana emphasised the squad’s versatility across singles, pairs and fours. “Our focus this season has been on role clarity, adaptability and understanding how each position contributes to team success. That flexibility will be vital across the seven rounds, where momentum and matchups can shift quickly.”
Co-selector Brendon Walton noted the strength of the selection process. “The depth available made for some very tough decisions. Several quality players were unlucky to miss out, which speaks to the strength of our development pathway.”
Selectors highlighted the following attributes across the group:
• Tactical awareness and game understanding
• Strong communication and composure under pressure
• Willingness and ability to adapt to team roles
The pathway is already showing its value. From last year’s event, three players progressed into Premier Intercentre squads this season, a clear indicator of the Octagonal’s role as a genuine stepping stone within the Auckland representative framework.
With a blend of composure, youthful confidence and competitive edge, Auckland travels to Tauranga focused on executing its campaign plan.
We wish the team every success in the weeks ahead and look forward to seeing our players represent their clubs and region with pride, discipline and unity.
Go well, Auckland 💙
